The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has established the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission as part of efforts to transform the state’s energy sector and improve power reliability.
The announcement, made in a press release from the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor (Media and Publicity) on Monday, highlights the governor’s commitment to sustainable energy development. This development follows the signing of the Lagos Electricity Bill 2024 into law earlier this month.
According to the statement, the commission will create an innovative and sustainable energy framework for the state. It will focus on enhancing power supply reliability and fostering advancements in the energy sector.
“The governor has approved the constitution of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, a critical step in advancing the state’s energy sector,” the statement read.
The commission is subject to Lagos State House of Assembly confirmation.
Governor Sanwo-Olu has also approved key appointments to lead the regulatory body.
The new regulatory commission is expected to usher in a new era of energy reliability and innovation in Lagos. By focusing on energy sustainability, the initiative aligns with the government’s broader development goals for Nigeria’s economic hub.
