French independent oil company Perenco has announced a new strategy to enhance production and recovery rates at the massive Emeraude oilfield offshore Congo-Brazzaville. The field, which holds an estimated 5 billion barrels of oil, has proven challenging to tap, but Perenco is determined to overcome these obstacles with innovative solutions.
Perenco will deploy a customized platform rig in 2025 to optimize operations and increase output as part of its plan. The Emeraude field, acquired by Perenco from TotalFinaElf in 2020, has long been considered a challenging reservoir, with companies struggling to unlock its full potential.
Perenco’s CEO Armel Simondin described the field as “quite amazing,” emphasizing the company’s commitment to finding efficient ways to extract oil from its complex, shallow-water reservoirs.
