Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has welcomed the United States’ latest sanctions targeting over 400 entities linked to Russia’s energy sector, describing them as a decisive move against Moscow’s war efforts.
In a statement on X, Zelenskyy commended the sanctions for disrupting the financial and logistical networks that fuel Russia’s aggression. The measures encompass Russian energy producers, insurance companies, service providers, logistics facilities, and a fleet of 184 shadow tankers.
“I am grateful to @POTUS, his administration, and the entire American people for today’s announcement of a new sanctions package targeting over 400 entities linked to Russia’s energy sector,” Zelenskyy said. “These measures deliver a significant blow to the financial foundation of Russia’s war machine by disrupting its entire supply chain.”
Key targets include Surgutneftegaz, a prominent oil company that Zelenskyy identified as a financial pillar of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s regime. The sanctions are designed to weaken Russia’s revenue from oil exports and hinder its capacity to sustain its military campaign.
Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of using energy resources to promote global stability rather than conflict, praising US leadership for its bipartisan support. He expressed confidence that the sanctions would significantly reduce Russia’s income from oil exports, accelerating the end of the conflict.
“Energy resources should never be used as weapons, as Russia does. Countries that respect international law can and should ensure stable and reliable energy supplies for the entire world. We are deeply grateful for America’s leadership in holding Russia accountable,” Zelenskyy added.
