ConocoPhillips Moves into FEED Stage for Malaysian Offshore Project

US oil and gas operator ConocoPhillips is advancing its Salam-Patawali project off the coast of Sarawak, Malaysia, entering the front-end engineering and design (FEED) phase. Two competing contractor groups are vying to secure the contract to supply the project’s floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel — the key infrastructure for the development.

Project Overview

• Location: Offshore Sarawak, Malaysia.

• FPSO Specifications:

• Oil production capacity: 30,000 barrels per day (bpd).

• Storage capacity: Up to 600,000 barrels of oil.

Next Steps

ConocoPhillips plans to conduct a FEED competition, where contractors will propose designs for the FPSO. The winning contractor will likely be retained for the FPSO’s construction and deployment, marking a significant milestone for the project.

Strategic Importance

The Salam-Patawali project reflects ConocoPhillips’ continued investment in Malaysia’s offshore sector, capitalizing on the region’s resource potential and supportive regulatory environment. Once operational, the FPSO will enable efficient production and storage of hydrocarbons, playing a critical role in meeting regional energy demands.
