The Kano State government has earmarked N16.6 billion for the agricultural sector in its 2025 budget to enhance food security, boost productivity, and support rural development.
Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Musa Shanono, announced this on Thursday while presenting the budget breakdown, emphasizing agriculture as a key driver of economic growth.
“To improve irrigation and water supply for farming, N3 billion has been allocated for constructing the 3.1 billion litres Dansoshiya Dam,” Shanono revealed.
Additionally, N5.6 billion will go to the Kano State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA) and the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) to improve crop and livestock farming.
The government also set aside N815 million for fertilizers, seeds, and agrochemicals, N571 million for onion beds across three senatorial districts, and N391 million for women-focused agricultural initiatives.
Other allocations include N167 million for veterinary clinics and N162 million for a pasture museum at Kadawa to support livestock farming.
“These investments reaffirm our commitment to developing agriculture, creating opportunities for farmers, and ensuring food security,” Shanono stated.
