Army Destroys 12 Illegal Refining Sites, Recovers 70,000 Litres of Stolen Oil

The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army has made significant strides in curbing illegal oil refining activities in the Niger Delta region.
In a week-long operation across Rivers and three other states, the army successfully destroyed 12 illegal refining sites, arrested 16 suspects, and recovered approximately 70,000 litres of stolen petroleum products.

The operation, carried out in collaboration with other security agencies, also led to the demobilisation of six boats and the interception of nine vandalised pipelines. Key successes include the seizure of two fully loaded suction trucks, each containing 12,000 litres of stolen crude, and the confiscation of over 10,000 litres of stolen products from a massive storage facility at a scrap yard.

In Rivers State, additional clearance operations resulted in the destruction of three illegal refining sites, 43 cooking drum pots, 23 receivers, and over 4,000 litres of stolen petroleum products. Similar operations in Imo River, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Delta, and Bayelsa states led to the interception and destruction of numerous illegal refining equipment, boats, and stolen crude oil.

The General Officer Commanding of the 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, commended the troops for their efforts and urged them to continue enhancing security in the region to support oil exploration activities.
