Recognizing the importance of women in agriculture, stakeholders at an agricultural workshop in Oyo State emphasized that promoting women’s participation in the sector is crucial for economic growth and reducing gender-based violence in Nigeria.
With only 20% of Nigeria’s workforce engaged in agriculture, and female participation remaining low, the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, through the French Embassy, has launched the Women in Agricultural Technical Education and Apprenticeship Initiative. This program aims to provide technical training to 3,000 youths, primarily women, across six Nigerian states.
The initiative, designed to bridge the gender gap in agriculture, will equip women with mentorship and essential skills for success in the industry. Representatives from different states attending the workshop pledged their support for the project.
Beneficiary states include Anambra, Enugu, Jigawa, Kano, Kwara, and Oyo.
