TotalEnergies Plans Second Ultra-Deepwater Exploration Well in Namibia

TotalEnergies is set to launch another ultra-deepwater exploration well in Namibia’s Orange Basin, targeting potential resources near its Venus oil discovery. This marks the company’s second attempt to unlock commercial reserves in Block 2912 (Petroleum Exploration Licence 91) after the Nara-1X well, drilled in 2023, failed to confirm an extension of Venus.

So far, the French energy giant has focused most of its drilling efforts in Block 2913B (PEL 56), leading to the Venus, Mangetti, and Tamboti discoveries. However, with renewed confidence in the basin’s potential, the company is looking to tap into unexplored ultra-deep prospects.

The Orange Basin has gained industry-wide attention as one of the world’s most promising offshore frontiers, with several international oil companies ramping up exploration activities in the region.
