Illegal Business Class Upgrade Leads to Arrest at Lagos Airport

Security operatives at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, apprehended three passengers on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, for engaging in disruptive behavior aboard an Air Peace flight from London.

The incident occurred mid-flight when two passengers, identified as Adedigba Adewale and Ashibogu Magnus, left their assigned Economy Class seats and unlawfully occupied Business Class seats. Despite multiple directives from the crew to return to their designated seats, they refused and forcefully remained in the premium cabin.

Efforts to de-escalate the situation were unsuccessful as the individuals continued their defiance, creating a tense atmosphere on board. The situation worsened when they, along with a third passenger, Iwonze Benjamin, openly consumed a bottle of rum they had brought onto the aircraft, further heightening safety concerns among passengers and crew.

The captain made repeated announcements from the cockpit, urging compliance, but the unruly behavior persisted. Recognizing the potential security threat, the flight crew alerted security agencies in Nigeria ahead of landing. Upon arrival, law enforcement officials took the three individuals into custody for further investigation.

Air Peace, in a statement, reaffirmed its commitment to passenger safety and adherence to global aviation standards. The airline condemned any form of disruptive behavior and assured the public of its unwavering efforts to maintain order and security on all flights.

The airline also commended its crew for handling the situation professionally, preventing a more severe incident. Authorities are currently investigating, and legal action is expected to follow.
