Kogi Invests N10bn in Agriculture for Sustainable Growth

The state government has poured over N10 billion into agriculture, ensuring that farmers have access to modern tools, fertilizers, and essential farming inputs—all provided for free.

To boost mechanized farming, the government has also recovered and refurbished over 150 tractors, leading to estimated savings between N20 billion to N50 billion.

“What is also interesting is that the government is providing all the implements, all the seedlings, the inputs—including fertilizers—for free,” Isah revealed. “Our round-the-year farming, recently flagged off with our dry season farming, has witnessed significant government support.”

This initiative has not only improved food security but has empowered local farmers, creating a ripple effect of economic growth in rural communities.

Security: A Bold Approach to Keeping Kogi Safe
While agriculture remains a top priority, Kogi State is also doubling down on security. According to Isah, the state government has provided over 300 vehicles and 1,000 specialized motorbikes to security agencies, ensuring they are well-equipped to combat crime.

“We take the fight to terrorists,” he stated, emphasizing that Kogi’s proactive security model is now being adopted by neighboring states like Kwara, Ekiti, Ondo, Benue, Niger, and Nasarawa.

Additionally, the recruitment of 3,000 vigilante personnel and increased salaries for security officers have further strengthened the fight against crime.

Education: Prioritizing the Future of Kogi’s Youth
Education is another area witnessing major transformation. The Ododo administration has:

Increased investment in education by 30%
Inaugurated a Human Capital Development Council
Approved N1.2 billion for external examinations

This commitment ensures that Kogi remains above UNESCO’s minimum benchmark of 26% for education budget allocation, a move that has inspired other northern states to follow suit.

“We are told that most of our states in the north are still using the 1959 education law, but Kogi has moved forward,” Isah said. “Now, other states are trying to learn from what we’ve done.”

Infrastructure: Roads, Markets, and Industrial Growth
Governor Ododo’s administration is also revamping infrastructure across the state, with 465km of roads under construction. One of the most ambitious projects is the new International Market in Lokoja, designed to consolidate trade and boost commerce.

This ultramodern facility, covering 15 hectares of land, will feature:

Hotel facilities
A police post
A modern abattoir
A shopping mall

Sanitation and waste management services
“We are also setting up processing facilities in the three senatorial districts,” Isah added. “One in Alape, one in Osara, and one around Ofu. Additionally, the state’s Industrial Park project, covering 3,000 hectares, is set to launch this year.”

A Vision for the Future
Kogi State’s development strategy under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is a bold and ambitious one. From agriculture and security to education and infrastructure, the administration is laying a solid foundation for sustainable growth.

With massive investments, innovative policies, and a people-centric approach, Kogi is on the path to becoming a model state in Nigeria—one where farmers thrive, businesses grow, and communities prosper.
