President Tinubu Grants Exemption for Aviation Sector Foreign Travels

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has granted an exemption for foreign travel within the aviation sector for safety-related purposes, as disclosed by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo.

Keyamo explained that despite a federal ban on foreign trips for government officials, he wrote a memo to the president, requesting the aviation sector be excluded from the restriction. He revealed that the president approved this request to ensure that the sector’s safety and workforce training are not compromised.

Keyamo spoke during the 25th anniversary celebration of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Saturday, also highlighting the challenges the NCAA has faced, including attempts to merge it with the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) under the Steve Oronsaye report. The minister credited NCAA’s resilience for surviving such turbulent moments over the years.

Keyamo reiterated the government’s continued commitment to aviation safety and the need for consistent professional development within the sector. He assured that the aviation ministry’s focus on international collaboration and training would continue, despite the broader travel ban imposed by the president.
