The Wheat Farmers Green Field Celebration in Dabi Village, Jigawa State, showcased the state government’s commitment to economic diversification and national food security.
The event attracted participants nationwide, highlighting Nigeria’s agricultural progress and Jigawa’s significant role in wheat farming.
The federal government, collaborating with the Jigawa State government and the Flour Mills Association of Nigeria (FMAN), cultivated over 80,000 hectares of wheat for the 2025 season. This achievement marks a milestone in Nigeria’s push for food self-sufficiency.
Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Abubakar Kyari, recounted that during the 2023/2024 season, 55,000 hectares were cultivated, including 40,000 hectares supported by the federal government.

Building on this success, the government expanded support to 60,000 hectares for the 2024/2025 season, with state partners adding another 20,000 hectares.
Over 160,000 farmers benefited from subsidized agricultural inputs, including 10,000 water pump generators, sprayers, litres of insecticides, agro-fertilizers, and herbicides, provided free by the Federal Government under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Governor Umar Namadi pledged to expand wheat cultivation to 500,000 hectares by 2030, reaffirming agriculture as Jigawa’s economic backbone. He also revealed plans to invest ₦8.26 billion in supporting dry-season rice farming, targeting 50,000 hectares across key regions.
Jigawa’s achievements in wheat and rice production exemplify how determination, strategic partnerships, and collective efforts can secure Nigeria’s agricultural future.
