Stakeholders Highlight Major Challenges Hindering Nigeria’s Aviation Growth

Stakeholders in Nigeria’s aviation sector have identified regulatory inefficiencies, infrastructural decay, airline financial instability, and policy inconsistency as key obstacles to growth.

Speaking at a capacity development retreat in Abuja, aviation experts and lawmakers stressed the need for urgent reforms to reposition the sector.

Former lawmaker Ossai Nicholas Ossai noted that despite multiple reforms, systemic issues persist, citing past air crashes that led to safety regulations like the Civil Aviation Act of 2006.

Committee Chairman Abdullahi Idris Garba emphasized the role of agencies like FAAN, NAMA, and NCAA in driving transformation and ensuring compliance with global standards.

He assured that the National Assembly would push for adequate funding and infrastructure upgrades to enhance safety, competitiveness, and economic contributions.

Budgeting expert Chibuzor Okereke urged lawmakers to use their oversight powers effectively to ensure proper utilization of allocated funds in aviation.

FAAN, NAMA, and NCAA representatives acknowledged existing sectoral challenges and called for increased funding to address infrastructure deficits and improve regulatory efficiency.
