Ondo Governor Approves Rufus Giwa Polytechnic’s Upgrade to University of Agriculture

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved the conversion of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, into a University of Agriculture and Agribusiness.

Chief Press Secretary Ebenezer Adeniyan announced the decision on Wednesday, following a review of the initial upgrade plan.

The governor stated that the institution will serve as a model for Ondo State’s agricultural and food security revolution initiative.

Implementation and Impact on Students and Staff

A government-appointed committee will oversee the transition to ensure smooth implementation without disrupting students and staff.

Governor Aiyedatiwa assured that the conversion will strengthen agricultural education and create more opportunities for youths in the sector.

N15 Billion Youth Agriculture Initiative

The governor also approved an MoU between the state and a private investor to inject N15 billion into a youth-focused agriculture initiative.

The agreement, signed with AgroMall Discovery and Extension Limited, establishes the Young Ranchers Agricultural Cluster Development Programme.

This initiative will utilize five hectares of land across three clusters, partnering with three institutions, including the newly upgraded RUGIPO.

Practical Training and Institutional Benefits

The programme will provide hands-on training for young farmers and students in agriculture and related fields.

Additionally, the participating institutions will receive a percentage of proceeds from the project, ensuring long-term benefits.

ICT Development for Revenue Enhancement

Governor Aiyedatiwa also approved an MoU with BBA Consult to enhance Ondo State’s revenue generation system through secured ICT deployment.

The project will be executed on a Build, Operate, and Transfer basis, ensuring sustainable financial management and resource planning.
