Nigerian Navy Rescues 99 Passengers in Rivers State Boat Accident

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder in Port Harcourt personnel on Tuesday, April 29 successfully rescued 99 passengers following a boat accident on the Bukuma River in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The wooden market boat, named Blood of Jesus, was en route from Port Harcourt to Akuku-Toru when it collided head-on with a barge named Damen Buba, approximately 300 meters from Naval Security Station 035 in the Tuma area. 

Upon receiving a distress call around 10:55 a.m., the Navy promptly deployed four gunboats to the scene. Despite challenging conditions, all 99 passengers were rescued without any reported fatalities or injuries. 

Commodore Cajethan Aniaku, Commander of NNS Pathfinder, commended the swift and professional response of the naval personnel, attributing the successful rescue to their timely intervention and skilled handling of the situation.
