US Operator EOG Resources Wins UAE Onshore Oil Exploration Concession

US-based energy giant EOG Resources has secured an onshore oil exploration concession in the United Arab Emirates, awarded by Abu Dhabi’s Supreme Council for Financial and Economic Affairs. The new concession, named Unconventional Onshore Block 3 (UCO3), spans an impressive 3,609 square kilometers in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region, an area identified as an over-pressured, oil-prone basin.

EOG Resources will hold a 100% interest in the block and serve as the primary operator, while Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) will collaborate on exploration and appraisal activities. Drilling is scheduled to commence in the second half of 2025, followed by a three-year appraisal phase. If commercial hydrocarbon deposits are confirmed, EOG could enter a production concession with the UAE, with Adnoc retaining the option to participate.

EOG CEO Ezra Yacob expressed enthusiasm about the venture, stating, “We are excited for the opportunity to evaluate this hydrocarbon-rich basin for potential horizontal development. We look forward to working alongside Adnoc to expand Abu Dhabi’s resource potential.”

The deal marks a significant step in boosting Abu Dhabi’s oil output and strengthens international energy partnerships.
