U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning to Apple, threatening a 25% import tariff on iPhones not manufactured within the United States.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Friday, Trump stated, “I have long ago informed [CEO] Tim Cook of Apple this. I expect their iPhones that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else. If that is not the case, a Tariff of at least 25 per cent must be paid by Apple to the U.S.”
Trump has been a long-standing critic of Apple’s overseas production, repeatedly urging the tech giant to shift its manufacturing operations to the U.S. However, experts argue such a move would require substantial investment and could significantly increase the cost of iPhones.
Under CEO Tim Cook, Apple has developed an expansive supply chain across Asia, particularly in China. In recent years, the company has diversified its production footprint to India and Vietnam in response to geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
If implemented, the proposed tariffs could have a major impact on Apple’s pricing strategy and global supply chain dynamics.
