The Lagos State Government has revealed plans to reinstate the suspended monthly environmental sanitation exercise. This move is part of a renewed strategy to foster a cleaner, healthier, and flood-resilient environment across the state. The sanitation exercise, which was previously held on the last Saturday of every month, was suspended in 2016.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stated that the reintroduction is crucial in combating indiscriminate waste disposal, drainage blockages, and related environmental hazards. He emphasized the importance of public participation and community responsibility in ensuring the initiative’s success.
Residents are expected to engage actively in cleaning their surroundings, markets, and drainage channels during the designated hours. The government has also hinted at stricter enforcement and penalties for non-compliance to ensure effective implementation.
