Gastrade has resumed operations at its Alexandroupolis LNG terminal in the Aegean Sea, restoring vital regasification services after nearly seven months of downtime.
The terminal, featuring a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), restarted on August 11 ahead of schedule following repairs to a damaged booster pump that halted operations in late January. Current output is capped at 45.4 GWh/day, but full capacity will be restored on October 1, 2025, with the start of the new gas year.
Operational since October 2024, the facility plays a key role in bolstering energy security and diversification for Central and Southeast Europe. It is jointly owned by Gastrade, Gaslog, DEPA Commercial, Bulgartransgaz, and DESFA, with each holding a 20% stake.
With an annual regasification capacity of 5.5 billion cubic meters, the Alexandroupolis terminal also sets the stage for Gastrade’s next big project, the planned FSRU Thrace, expected to match its technical capacity.
