TotalEnergies, in partnership with QatarEnergy (35%) and the national oil company SNPC (15%), has been granted the Nzombo exploration permit, a 1,000 km² offshore block situated around 100 km off Pointe-Noire in the Republic of the Congo . The permit lies near TotalEnergies’ existing Moho production facilities, enabling potential operational synergies .
TotalEnergies will operate the project holding a 50% stake, reinforcing its high-impact exploration strategy in the region . The initial work plan includes drilling a single exploration well, expected to commence before the end of 2025 .
Kevin McLachlan, TotalEnergies’ SVP for Exploration, emphasized that the award “reflects our continued strategy of expanding our exploration portfolio with high-impact prospects… leveraging our existing facilities” .
This permit expands TotalEnergies’ presence and reinforces their long-term partnership with the Republic of the Congo, aligning with the company’s approach to efficiently develop new resources through strategic infrastructure .
