The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mohammed Bello-Koko, has emphasized that modernizing Nigeria’s port operations through digital transformation is crucial to boosting trade efficiency and economic growth.
Speaking at a recent maritime stakeholders’ engagement, Bello-Koko noted that the NPA is implementing cutting-edge technology solutions to reduce turnaround time, curb corruption, and enhance cargo transparency across major ports.
“We are committed to transforming Nigeria’s ports into smart, globally competitive trade gateways that support the nation’s blue economy ambitions,” he said.
He added that several port digitalization projects, including the electronic call-up system and single-window platform, are already improving logistics coordination and attracting investment.
The modernization agenda aligns with Nigeria’s broader infrastructure goals, with the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy backing initiatives that make port operations safer, faster, and more efficient.
As global trade intensifies, experts say Nigeria’s maritime sector is on course to become West Africa’s primary logistics hub, leveraging technology and policy reforms for long-term growth.6
