✈️ Alaska Airlines Restores Operations After System-Wide IT Outage

U.S. carrier Alaska Airlines announced late on Thursday that it had restored flight operations after a widespread technology outage prompted a ground stop across all airports in its network, including its subsidiary Horizon Air.

The ground stop, requested via a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) advisory, lasted nearly three hours. The airline reported that its IT systems affecting flight operations, bookings and mobile apps suffered an error, leading to flight cancellations and delays.

In a statement, Alaska Airlines said:

“We are still experiencing an IT outage affecting our operations … and working to restore our full service.”

It added that this marks the second similar fleet-wide grounding in the past months. The airline has advised travelers to check flight status before heading to the airport and said more disruptions are possible as crews and aircraft are repositioned.
