Katsina LG Chairmen Commend Governor Radda for Advancing Mechanized Farming

Local Government Chairmen in Katsina State have praised Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda for introducing mechanized farming, describing it as a game-changer for agriculture, employment, and economic growth in the state.

The commendations were made during a discussion with journalists touring rural areas to assess developmental projects executed by the state government.

Mai’adua Local Government Chairman, Mamman Salisu Na-Allahu, highlighted the positive impact of mechanized farming in his area, noting that it has boosted food production, created job opportunities, and significantly reduced youth migration to the southern part of Nigeria.

He added that increased agricultural activities have led to higher farmer earnings and improved government revenue through agricultural taxation.

Similarly, Mashi Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Salisu Kallah Dankada, stated that many youths in his area are now engaged in agriculture, thanks to new job openings in the sector. According to him, mechanized farming has also contributed to a decline in crime rates, as many young people now have viable means of livelihood.

“Before now, criminal activities were rampant in Mashi Town and surrounding rural areas. We are very grateful for the governor’s initiative,” Dankada said.

He further revealed that each of the 34 local governments in Katsina received 100 power tillers, adequate fertilizer, pesticides, and solar-powered generators to support irrigation farming. With 70% of Katsina’s population engaged in farming, he noted that the sector had previously been neglected. However, under Governor Radda—who holds a Ph.D. in Agriculture—the state is witnessing an agricultural transformation.

Additionally, the government has empowered 1,000 youths with grants ranging from N500,000 to N1 million to establish their own businesses, promoting self-reliance and entrepreneurship.

A Tribune correspondent in Katsina reported that local markets are now flooded with agricultural products, a testament to the rise in farming activities. However, despite the increase in supply, food prices remain high, posing affordability challenges for low-income earners.

Governor Radda’s mechanized farming initiative continues to gain recognition as a significant step toward food security, economic stability, and rural development in Katsina State.
