Howden has acquired aviation insurance specialist Forbes Insurance and the book of business from Hill Aviation Insurance Services.
The financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed.
Both Forbes Insurance and Hill Aviation will be rebranded under the Howden name, forming a specialist aviation division within Howden UK&I.
Additionally, Howden will establish a new office in Leicester, further expanding its UK presence.
Forbes Insurance, founded by Terry Moyes, operates in Leicestershire, providing commercial and private aviation insurance services across the UK.
Hill Aviation, based in North Yorkshire, has served the general aviation insurance market since 1991.
Steve Hill, Hill Aviation’s founder, will retire following a brief consultancy period with Howden.
Expanding Aviation Insurance Offerings
The new aviation division will offer tailored insurance solutions for a variety of aviation businesses.
These include coverage for aircraft maintenance firms, airfield operators, gliding clubs, rotary and fixed-wing aircraft, and aviation-related employers’ liability.
The division will also cover gliders, motor-gliders, and glider tugs, serving a broad range of aviation clients.
Terry Moyes will lead Howden’s aviation team and oversee operations at the new Leicester office.

Moyes highlighted Howden’s appealing culture, noting the company’s founder-led structure and 30% employee ownership.
He said, “Forming a successful aviation division and opening Howden’s Leicester office is an exciting challenge for our team.”
Jim Stevenson, regional managing director of Howden UK&I Midlands commercial division, welcomed the new team members.
“I’m delighted to welcome Terry and the Forbes team, strengthening our East Midlands presence,” Stevenson stated.
He also acknowledged Steve Hill’s contributions, wishing him a happy retirement after his consultancy period.
“Terry and our Leicester team will ensure Steve’s former clients continue receiving top-tier service,” Stevenson added.
The acquisition strengthens Howden’s retail specialisms, expanding its aviation coverage for commercial and private clients across the UK.
