China Imposes New Tariffs on U.S. Agricultural Imports in Retaliation Against Washington

China announced on Tuesday that it will implement new tariffs on various U.S. agricultural imports starting next week, responding to Washington’s recent tariff hikes.

Beijing’s finance ministry stated that a 15% additional tariff will be applied to chicken, wheat, corn, and cotton. Additionally, a 10% levy will be imposed on sorghum, soybeans, pork, beef, aquatic products, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products.

The move follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision on Monday to raise a previously imposed 10% tariff on Chinese goods to 20%, further escalating tensions between the two nations.

China condemned the U.S. action, describing it as a “unilateral imposition of tariffs” that increases burdens on American businesses and consumers while weakening the economic and trade relationship between both countries.

In response, Beijing’s commerce ministry announced plans to file a lawsuit at the World Trade Organization to challenge the additional 10% tariffs.
