The Association of Organic Agriculture Practitioners of Nigeria (NOAN) has reiterated the importance of organic agriculture in building a sustainable, innovative food system and combating poverty. This was the key message from their 17th Annual General Meeting and Organic Fair held in Lagos, themed “Innovative Organic Food System for National Development.”
Key Resolutions:
• Organic farming can break the poverty cycle through long value chains and ecological resilience.
• Innovation and digital marketing should be used to train and empower more farmers.
• Policies must support free trade, organic market development, and prime pricing for organic goods.
• Advocated agroecology training, resource sharing, export training, and physical/online organic markets.
NOAN urged the Nigerian government to support a national organic market framework, encourage youth involvement, and ensure organic farming practices are widely understood and adopted.
